Frequent Questions
General Questions
Whether this is your first time seeking counselling or you have had counselling in the past, you may have general questions regarding services, fees or processes. If your question isn’t answered on this page, please feel free to contact me via email or phone.
How do you know when it is time to get support?
Therapy can help at any stage of life, under various circumstances, including trauma, grief, life transitions, stress and relationship issues. This is a difficult question to answer, because it is different for everyone. But chances are, if you are questioning whether or not it is time to get support, it can’t hurt to try. Counselling is also helpful for anyone wanting to pursue personal growth and increase overall well-being even if they are not experiencing a specific issue or problem.
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept cash and e-transfer payments.
How long does therapy usually last?
A typical individual therapy session is usually 45 – 60 minutes depending on the content we are covering that day. I also schedule at least 20 minutes in between clients to ensure confidentiality and no overlap in the waiting room. Depending on the needs of the client, it is typical to schedule between 4 and 12 sessions total. With that said, I will continue to see clients for as many sessions as needed.
See the tab regarding couples counselling for a breakdown of the length of services.
How often should I attend counselling sessions?
Typically, we start with once per week, however that is tailored to the individual depending on their needs. It is not uncommon to see someone twice a week during the initial stages of counselling. We will decide together when it may be appropriate to move to bi-weekly or monthly sessions or to schedule a “check-in” session every 2-3 months (if needed).
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Please also see the tab on fees for more information. No, I currently do not offer a sliding scale because I do offer free or discounted workshops and group sessions in my community. Check out the wellness news for upcoming events.
Why does counselling cost so much?
The cost the client pays states “per hour” of counselling however, I typically spend an additional 2-3 hours dedicated to planning, paperwork and administration.
Are there different rates for virtual versus in-person counselling?
No, I have decided not to charge more for either service as I do not want to create any additional barriers to receiving counselling.
